** Please be aware that potential Royal Mail Industrial Action will delay the receipt of priority certificates in November - if you require a certificate urgently, please select collection wherever possible rather than post.

How much do certificates cost?

Copies purchased at the time of registration £11
Copies purchased after registration - standard service - ready for collection or postage on the 15th working day/3 weeks after the order placed (postage not included) £11
Copies purchased after registration - priority service - 2 working day service (postage not included) £35

Certificates are posted or are ready for collection 2 working days after ordering and payment received on the priority service, or 15 working days for non priority.

Please note, we do not notify you when it is completed, just use the above time guide based on the service you have paid for. Please also be aware that we cannot guarantee the date of delivery once it has left the office as its then in the hands of the postal service. We would recommend where you have an urgent need to have the certificate by a particular date, that you, or someone on your behalf collects it instead.

If you require documents posting, please add £2 for secure recorded UK postage.

If your documents are to be sent overseas, international postage is £6.

Where you are collecting a certificate, please collect from Doncaster Register Office, Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, DN1 3BU - the office is open Mon to Fro 08:30 to 16:30 for collection.

What we need from you

For a birth certificate (short or full version):

Birth certificates are produced in both short or full versions, however the cost is the same for both. If you need a certificate for official purposes e.g. a passport application, you will need a full certificate, short ones may not be accepted.

  • full name
  • date and place of birth
  • parents' names 
  • mother's maiden name

For a death certificate:

  • full name of the deceased
  • date and place of death

For a marriage certificate:

  • full names of the couple
  • date and the place of marriage

For a civil partnership certificate:

Copies of civil partnership certificates are provided as either extracts or as full certificates, the cost is the same for both. The full certificate will show all details, the extract does not have any address details, as in order to obtain a full certificate the customer must provide the address details of both partners as correct at the time that the civil partnership took place.

You need to pay for certificates at the time of applying online by card.
