New School Holiday Pattern for the 2021/22 academic year
You may remember that in early 2020, we were looking for opinions from parents, families, school staff and other groups on whether schools in Doncaster should look to keep the existing holiday pattern, or whether to opt one of a number of alternative options based on feedback we have received about how holiday patterns work best for everyone.
Following this consultation, we received over 7,000 responses with a clear preferred choice amongst them to change the existing school holiday pattern. As of September 2021, the new school holiday pattern will come into effect for the 31 community schools in Doncaster that the council maintain (although we will be encouraging other schools and academies to adopt the same holiday pattern where possible).
More information about this, including a full list of the 31 schools, and the consultation is available in the FAQs document below:
The new school holiday pattern for 2021/22 looks like this:
'A fixed Easter break (this will be known as Early Summer break) with a two-week October half term and a five-week summer holiday, breaking up a week later than usual in July'
With this, we will introduce the following dates for school closures
October half term - 2 weeks
Christmas break - 2 weeks
February half term - 1 week
Easter/Early Summer break - 2 weeks - this would always fall in the first full two weeks of April regardless of where the Easter holiday falls)
May half term - 1 week
Summer break - 5 weeks - schools would break up a week later than usual in July
