What is this for?

To order a copy of a birth, marriage, death or civil partnership certificates.

You can order copies of birth, marriage, death or civil partnership certificates.

Due to a number of staff having to self isolate, copy certificates will only be generated on non priority basis (received or available for collection after 3 to 4 weeks). If you require a copy certificate urgently, please contact the General Register Office on 0300 123 1837 who may be able to assist.

What is it going to cost?

Copies purchased at the time of registration £11
Copies purchased after registration - standard service - ready for collection or postage on the 15th working day/3 weeks after the order placed (postage not included) £11
Copies purchased after registration - priority service - same day service when ordered before 1pm (postage not included)
*Please note that we have to had to temporarily suspend the priority service but orders can still be placed using our standard service. We apologise for any inconvenience*

If you request a copy of a certificate online, you can pay online.

If you require documents posting, please add £2 for secure recorded UK postage.

If your documents are to be sent overseas, international postage is £6.

What we need from you

Complete the form in full, providing all the information requested.

We will ask you to register for a MyDoncaster account if you haven’t already. This will allow you to track your enquiry, and for us to tell you the outcome of your request. You will also be able to access additional online services offered by us. 

For a birth certificate (short or full version):

Birth certificates are produced in both short or full versions, however the cost is the same for both. If you need a certificate for official purposes e.g. a passport application, you will need a full certificate, short ones may not be accepted.

  • full name
  • date and place of birth
  • parents' names 
  • mother's maiden name

For a death certificate:

  • full name of the deceased
  • date and place of death

For a marriage certificate:

  • full names of the couple
  • date and the place of marriage

For a civil partnership certificate:

Copies of civil partnership certificates are provided as either extracts or as full certificates, the cost is the same for both. The full certificate will show all details, the extract does not have any address details, as in order to obtain a full certificate the customer must provide the address details of both partners as correct at the time that the civil partnership took place.

  • Second partners full name and address at the time of civil partnership
