Due to no nominations received for the 1 May 2025 Election for Hickleton Parish Council, the election must be re-run to try to fill the five vacancies.

Nomination Packs and Electoral Commission guidance for Candidates and Agents

The nomination period for this election begins on Thursday 8 May 2025 and closes at 4pm on Thursday 15 May 2025.

To help to complete nomination papers correctly we are offering electronic informal checks in advance of formally submitting nomination papers. It is recommended that you arrange an informal check as early as possible as this will give you sufficient time to correct any errors found or submit new forms if required. Informal checks will be carried out electronically and papers need to be scanned and e-mailed to candidates@doncaster.gov.uk if you are unable to scan a copy then send clear photos. We are also offering a telephone helpline to check your Proposer and Seconder electoral numbers in advance, you will need their full name and address before calling 01302 734658 or 01302 736486. Please note this helpline is to obtain electoral numbers only and not to provide guidance or informal checks over the phone. Any queries or help completing nomination papers should be e-mailed to candidates@doncaster.gov.uk  

You will need to formally submit your final nomination papers and some parts MUST be submitted in person, they cannot be submitted by post, fax, e-mail or other electronic means. You are advised to make an appointment for you or someone you trust to deliver your completed final nomination papers, if you do not arrange an informal check or book an appointment the Deputy Returning Officer may not be free to carry out any checks before you formally submit them.   

Nomination Papers must be delivered to Electoral Services, Ground Floor Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, DN1 3BU. On arrival at the Civic Office you will be required to check into reception and then wait to personally deliver them to a member of the Electoral Services Team. Nomination papers can be delivered between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm on any day (excluding weekends and bank holidays) from Thursday 8 May 2025 until NO LATER THAN 4pm on Thursday 15 May 2025.

Nomination packs are available to collect directly from Electoral Services at City of Doncaster Council, Civic Office Reception Monday to Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, alternatively they can be e-mailed upon request to candidates@doncaster.gov.uk or from the 'Downloads & Resources' section at the bottom of this page (please ensure you download the forms before printing) or you can download them from the Electoral Commissions website via the links below where you will also find further candidate guidance:

 

Town/Parish Councillor Nominations

It is recommended that you read this guidance thoroughly to ensure you comply. 

Uncontested

If there were to be only five or less candidates nominated, then those candidates would be elected without contest, but if more than five nominations are received, a poll will be held on Thursday 12 June 2025. 

If Contested

If contested there will be an Election on Thursday 12 June 2025 and further information will be added to this page. A notice will be published with the Candidates standing for election no later than the legal deadline of 4.00pm on Friday 16 May 2025.

Registration deadline to vote in these elections if not already registered

If you lice in the Hickleton Parish Council area and are not already on the electoral register and want to vote in these elections you will need to register to vote, please visit https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote  to register online. 

The deadline for your application is midnight on Tuesday 27 May 2025  REGISTER NOW

How to Vote 

You can do one of the following:

  • Vote in person at a polling station with photo ID
  • Vote by Post 
  • Vote by Proxy - which means getting someone you trust to cast your vote for you

Vote in person

The UK Government has introduced a requirement for registered electors to show photo ID when voting at a polling station.  To find out what photo ID is acceptable and how to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate if you don’t have suitable photo ID, visit our Voter ID pagePolling stations are open from 7am until 10pm.

If you need to apply for a free photo ID known as a Voter Authority Certificate, the deadline for applications for this election is 5pm on Wednesday 4 June 2025.

If you do not have suitable photo ID you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, you must do so by 5pm on Wednesday 4 June 2025 by visiting the government web page, you will need to upload a suitable photo: Voter Authority Certificate

Vote by Post

If you are unable or prefer not to vote in person you can apply for a postal vote; the quickest and easiest way is to complete your application online at APPLY FOR A POSTAL VOTE or to request a paper application form please call 01302 736874 or email electoralservices@doncaster.gov.uk or you can download an application form: Postal Vote application form please print, complete and return forms to ELECTORAL SERVICES, CIVIC OFFICE, WATERDALE, DONCASTER DN1 3BU or we can accept a scanned copy or photo by email to electoralservices@doncaster.gov.uk but it must be clear enough for us to use.

Please complete your online application form or send your completed paper application form to us as soon as possible and make sure that it reaches us by 5pm on Wednesday 28 May 2025 at the very latest. Remember we can accept a scanned copy by email to electoralservices@doncaster.gov.uk but it must be clear enough for us to use. We will then send you a postal vote pack in due course if the election is contested. 

Vote by Proxy

This means you can ask somebody you trust to vote on your behalf, the quickest and easiest way is to apply online at APPLY FOR A PROXY VOTE or to request a paper application form please call 01302 736874 or email electoralservices@doncaster.gov.uk or you can download an application form: Proxy Vote application form  please print, complete and return forms to ELECTORAL SERVICES, CIVIC OFFICE, WATERDALE, DONCASTER DN1 3BU or we can accept a scanned copy by email to electoralservices@doncaster.gov.uk but it must be clear enough for us to use.

You must complete an online application form or send your completed paper application form to us as soon as possible, making sure that it reaches us by 5pm on Wednesday 4 June 2025.

Returning your Postal Vote

New rules mean that your postal vote will be rejected if it is not returned correctly.

Please ensure you post your postal vote back as soon as possible to ensure it is delivered in time. If you don't have time to post it back to us, you can hand it in at your local polling station or at Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster DN1 3BU.

  • The easiest and most convenient way to return your postal vote is by posting it in a Royal Mail post box using the pre-paid envelope provided (envelope B).
  • Please allow enough time for your postal vote to reach us. It must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 10pm on Thursday 12 June 2025.
  • If you are hand delivering your completed postal vote, for example at a polling station or at the Electoral Services Office, you will need to complete a statutory form. Our staff will help you with this.
  • You can hand deliver your own and no more than 5 other postal votes per election.
  • If you are a political campaigner, you can only hand in your own postal vote, and 5 close relatives or people for whom you provide regular care.
  • DO NOT leave your postal vote in any Council Office post boxes, reception points or a polling station desk without completing a form with the authorised person.
