Commercial waste includes any waste arising from any commercial or industrial activities, trade or business. The disposal of commercial waste and recycling is not permitted at any of our Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Householders have a duty of care to ensure that any waste created by a paid tradesperson/handyman working in their home, is disposed of appropriately, safely and legally, either by themselves or by the tradesperson/s as a licenced carrier of waste.

If you are unsure whether the paid tradesperson/handyman has a waste carriers licence to transport and dispose of such waste call the Environment Agency National Customer Contact Centre on 08708 506 506 or check the Public Register. To access the Public Register visit Public register of licenced waste carriers

If householders decide to dispose of soil, rubble or DIY waste themselves at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, they need to be aware that this waste type is legally defined as a non-household waste and some council’s do not accept it at their sites.

We do recognise that householders can produce small quantities of this type of waste and therefore allows limited quantities to be deposited at the centre.
