Tell us about a change of occupancy or address

You need to let us know if you plan to, or have moved into, within or out of the Doncaster area, or if there is a change in your household, as this will affect the Council Tax you need to pay.

Moving into the Doncaster area

If you are moving into Doncaster from another area or if you were not responsible for Council Tax at your previous address, or need to register to pay Council Tax for the first time (for example you were living with your parents), please complete this form.

You should use this form if:

  • you need to register to pay Council Tax for the first time.
  • you were not responsible for paying Council Tax at your previous address e.g. you were living with parents, as a lodger, or in a house of multiple occupation.
  • you are moving into the Doncaster area for the first time.
  • you do not already live in Doncaster, but you have purchased a property in the Doncaster area, and will be moving in.

Moving out of the Doncaster area

You should use this form if:

  • you are moving out of the Doncaster area,
  • you will no longer be responsible for Council Tax at your new address e.g. you will be living with parents, as a lodger, or in a house of multiple occupation.
  • you have already told us you have moved out of a property, but now need to tell us it has been sold, or your tenancy has ended.
  • You are an owner or landlord or a property and need to tell us it has been sold.
  • You are the executor or next of kin and need to tell us a property is unoccupied due to the death of the occupant.
If you need to tell us that somebody has recently passed away, please contact us. We will need you to provide information about who has passed away and who is dealing with their estate or affairs. If you have already told the Council Tax team these details and want to tell us that a property has been sold from a deceased person's estate, simply complete the 'tell us you have sold a property' form below.

Moving within the Doncaster area

You should use this form if:

  • you are already responsible for Council Tax, live in Doncaster, and are moving to, or have moved to a new property in Doncaster, where you will also be the Council Tax payer,
  • you have purchased a property in the Doncaster area, but have not yet moved in.

Tell us you have purchased a property

You should use this form if:

  • you have bought a property, but you are not moving in straight away.
  • you have bought a property that is empty and you will not personally occupy it. For example, you intend to rent it out, or it will be used by others (please note they will need to register for Council Tax once they move in).
  • you are a landlord and you have purchased a property.

Tell us that you have sold a property

You should use this form if:

  • If you have sold a property that was already empty or unoccupied. 
  • You are a landlord and you have sold a property.
  • You are the executor of a deceased person's estate and need to tell us the property has been sold.
  • you have already told us you have moved out of a property, but now need to tell us it has been sold, or your tenancy has ended.

Someone over 18 is moving into your property

If you are not moving, but someone else over the age of 18 years is moving in with you at your address, or somebody already living with you is turning 18, please tell us their details by completing this form.

Someone over 18 has moved out, meaning you are the only adult over 18 years resident at your property

If someone has moved out (such as a partner) of your property, meaning you are now the only person over the age of 18 years, you may be eligible to a 25% Single Occupier discount. You can provide details of the person leaving your address and apply for the discount at the same time using our online single person discount application form.

Report the death of a taxpayer

If a taxpayer has passed away, you can report this to the Council Tax team online and find out more information about how Council Tax is affected.

Are you on a low income? You might qualify for Council Tax Reduction.

After reporting your change of address, don't forget that if you have a low income, you may be entitled to some help with your Council Tax. Our Council Tax Support scheme can pay all or part of your Council Tax. The amount of help you get generally depends on your income and savings and the income and savings of anyone else who lives in your home.
