Children’s Residential Care Roles

Have you got what it takes to help a young person living in residential care to reach their potential?

Women with boy washing dishes with recruiting for children homes role text

Our 8 children's homes are based in communities across the City of Doncaster, providing tailored support to give our children and young people every opportunity to grow and thrive.

Key to this is our Residential Care Officers, who work hard to create a homely environment for our children and young people meeting their physical, emotional, and social needs. They take care of running the home day-to-day, including all the things one would expect to see in any other family home such as getting ready for school, cooking and eating meals and participating in activities, and making memories that last a lifetime.

We look to match the young person to the right home and where possible, keep them close to their community and the school they attend, as well as supporting them to maintain relationships with their family.

Our Residential Care Officers also carry out administrative work including Care Plans, Positive Behaviour Plans, Risk Assessments and Daily Recordings relating to the child and home and are trained to provide any medication required.

Developing our teams

We love to see our residential colleagues grow and develop and will ensure you have the opportunity to work towards more senior roles within the service. With our ambitious expansion plans you could become our next Registered Manager, taking full accountability for your own children’s home and managing a dedicated team of practitioners.

What we offer

  • A starting salary from £24,044 plus a recruitment and retention payment worth up to £2,000
  • Training to equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide our children with a high level of care - including pay for you to complete your QFC Level 3 in residential childcare.
  • Generous annual leave. You will receive a minimum of 29 days per annum (pro rata) rising to a maximum of 34 days (pro rata) after 5 years’ service.
  • Local government pension scheme is available for all City of Doncaster Council employees to join.
