Doncaster Archives & Local Studies

CLOSURE OF DONCASTER ARCHIVES & LOCAL STUDIES TEMPORARILY.

Doncaster Archives on King Edward Road, Balby, was closed on 15/08/2019 following the identification of structural failings in the building’s reading room. Since then all of the archival holdings have been removed from King Edward Road and almost all have been placed for the time being in storage facilities outside Doncaster. These facilities are approved by The National Archives for the storage of archival material. The records will not, however, be accessible until they have been brought back to the borough.

Doncaster Local Studies Library
closed to the public when the library building on Waterdale closed, with effect from 23/03/2020, in preparation for the relocation of the Central Library to the new Danum Gallery, Library, & Museum. The closure date was brought forward in response to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Construction work has begun to transform the old Museum & Art Gallery on Chequer Road into suitable town centre premises to house the collections of Doncaster Archives & Local Studies. Please bear with us a little longer while this transformation takes place. We hope to be open again for research by the autumn of 2022 but please check our web pages for updates. While this is underway our collections remain in storage out of the borough and we are unable to answer any enquiries that require the consultation of our resources. Staff are still able to provide general advice although we cannot guarantee an immediate response. You can contact us on the email address given below. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.
