Sign Video is an online video relay service. It allows deaf or hard of hearing customers who use British Sign Language (BSL) to contact City of Doncaster Council. Sign Video connects you to a BSL interpreter who can communicate your sign language to an advisor.

Using SignVideo

SignVideo is fast, simple, secure and free to use. You can use Sign Video to contact our Customer Services team from home via a video call, or face to face in the One Stop Shop.

It's available:

  • Monday to Friday, from 8:30am - 5:00pm (excluding bank holidays)

Using SignVideo at home

There are two ways you can call us using Sign Video.

SignVideo - Web
  • Click on the button below to call City of Doncaster Council.
  • A Sign Video interpreter will appear on your screen to interpret your conversation.
Sign Video - App
  • Search for and download the SignVideo app that is compatible for your device from the Apple or Play app store.
  • Open the app which will launch the 'Sign Directory' (a list of all organisations that use Sign Video)
  • Scroll down the 'Sign Directory' and find City of Doncaster Council.
  • Click on the button to call City of Doncaster Council.
  • A SignVideo interpreter will appear on your screen to interpret your conversation.

What equipment do I need to use Sign Video at home?

To use the SignVideo interpretation service, you will need a device such as a computer, smartphone or tablet with the following:

  • Apple - running iOS 11 or above
  • Android - running Android 4.4 or above
  • A desktop computer with the latest version of Chrome or Firefox

A webcam that is built in or plugged into your device.

Good internet connection with a minimum 2MBps upload and download speed:

  • 3G, 4G, 5G mobile network
  • Plug in Broadband ethernet
  • WiFi

Using SignVideo in the One Stop Shop

The SignVideo service enables you to communicate face to face via a remote BSL interpreter to a Customer Advisor in the One Stop Shop in the Civic Office.

We will connect you to an interpreter using a tablet at our reception desk so you can see them on screen. They will help you communicate with one of our Customer Advisors.

You can come into the One Stop Shop without an appointment to access the service.
