Book a practical taxi driving test
What is this for?
IMPORTANT NOTICE - To enable social distancing you need to be aware of the following when presenting yourself for assessment:
- You MUST wear a face mask. Failure to do so will result in the test being cancelled.
- Windows must be down at all times to enable suitable ventilation.
- The Assessor will also be wearing a face mask and gloves and seat coverings will be provided.
It is a requirement that all Doncaster-licensed Hackney Carriage / Private Hire drivers must pass a practical driving test as part of the application process.
This process will allow you to book a practical driving test.

What is it going to cost?
- Driver Assessment, including wheelchair test is £100.30
- Driver Assessment is £85.96
- Wheelchair Assessment only is £28.66
Appointments can be cancelled by telephone or email up to 48 hours before the appointment without incurring any costs. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice, failing to attend or any other action on your part which prevents the appointment taking place.
IMPORTANT - Tests can be booked in two ways, either directly with ‘The Blue Lamp Trust’ or there are a limited number of spaces available through the Councils internal test station.

Option 2 – Doncaster Council (North Bridge) Tests
The Councils North Bridge Depot offer a limited number of practical driving assessment and wheelchair exercise tests.

What we need from you
You will need to bring to the test proof of:
- You MUST wear a face mask. Failure to do so will result in the test being cancelled.
- a valid MOT certificate
- National insurance number
- Driving Licence photo ID card (old style paper licence all parts if applicable)
- A vehicle that is wheelchair accessible if completing a wheelchair practical test
- A vehicle that meets the same requirements as a car diving test except it cannot have L plates
- You need to arrive 15 minutes before your allocated appointment
- You must allow 90 minutes for the assessment
- You need to bring with you any relevant glasses or contact lenses that you require to drive with.
What you should expect from us
We will offer you appointments to attend on specific days to attend a practical driving test.
The testing officer will advise you if you pass and provide you with a pass certificate.
The testing officer will advise you if you fail and provide a debrief.

Remember once licensed, a vehicle can only be driven by a Doncaster-licensed driver.
