Doncaster Launches Mayoral Business Advisory Group To Drive Economic Growth
City of Doncaster Council is working on a bold new chapter in its economic development with the launch of a new Mayoral Business Advisory Group —a strategic advisory board designed to bring together the city’s most dynamic business leaders, innovators, and community voices.

The Mayoral Business Advisory Group will serve as a high-level private sector advisory body, offering the Mayor and Cabinet expert insight, challenge, and leadership across sectors. Its mission is to help shape Doncaster’s economic future through collaboration, strategic alignment, and inclusive growth.
Chaired by Dan Fell MBE, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber, the Group will include up to 20 members from across key industries, SMEs, education, infrastructure, and the voluntary and community sectors. This diverse representation will ensure that the full breadth of Doncaster’s business landscape is reflected in the city’s economic strategy.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “This is a unique opportunity for business leaders to help shape the future of Doncaster. The launch of our new Business Advisory Group marks a pivotal step in ensuring Doncaster’s economic future is shaped by those who know it best – our local business community. It will be a platform for bold ideas, strategic influence, and meaningful collaboration. By working together, we can unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, and build a more prosperous, resilient city for everyone”.
Key principles guiding the Mayoral Business Advisory Group include:
- Strategic alignment with mayoral priorities such as the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, city and town centre regeneration, and inclusive economic growth.
- Collaborative leadership that strengthens ties between business and public service.
- Constructive challenge grounded in data and experience.
- Diversity of voice, ensuring representation across geography, sector, and lived experience.
Dan Fell MBE, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber, said: “This is about putting business at the heart of the conversation, not just as a stakeholder, but as a partner of equals shaping Doncaster’s future. With some constructive challenge, alongside the Mayor and Council leadership, we can ensure that local employers help steer the borough’s economic strategy to match local ambition.”
The Mayoral Business Advisory Group will convene bi-monthly, with members serving a two-year term. Expressions of interest are now open, and individuals passionate about Doncaster’s future are encouraged to apply.
