Doncaster countdowns to Armed Forces Day celebrations

Doncaster is counting down to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June with celebrations planned across the city to honour the men and women of the Armed Forces, past and present.

Doncaster's celebrations will get underway with a military parade in honour of serving troops, veterans, families and cadets which starts from Duke Street at 11am. The parade will make its way through the city centre and pass the Mansion House before ending at Elmfield Park. The event will be hosted by Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, and Civic Mayor of Doncaster, Cllr Tim Needham.

From 11.30am – 5pm, join the party in Elmfield Park with live entertainment, fun fair rides, activities, stalls, refreshments and exhibits as well as lots of information about the support available to our Armed Forces Community. There will be a chance to meet local Armed Forces representatives and an opportunity for all to share memories with veterans.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “Doncaster is immensely proud of its Armed Forces Community and every year our Armed Forces Day events are hugely popular with a very special atmosphere as people come together in recognition of the selfless contribution and sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women.

“As we countdown to the big day, our teams have been busy in the city centre putting up flags and bunting, there will also be land art in Elmfield Park and raising of the Armed Forces Day flag in Sir Nigel Gresley Square.

“The parade on the day is always a sight to behold and this will be followed by entertainment, activities and attractions for all the family at Elmfield Park – we’re looking forward to people joining us and entering into the spirit of the day.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the celebrations.
