Carers Week in Doncaster
Next week (9-15 June) marks national Carers Week, which is an opportunity to think about caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
City of Doncaster Council and partner organisations are hosting a range of events and activities throughout Carers Week to help carers identify themselves and access a range of help and support available to them.
David Williams from the Doncaster Carers Action Group said: “As a carer I know how important it is to be able to access the right support and share my experiences with other carers so we can help each other. I hope people who find themselves in an unpaid role, caring for a family member or friend, will come along to one of our events or get in touch with us as we want to improve carers’ lives and help them access the range of services available.”
Every day next week, from 10am – 4pm, the Carers Service and other local organisations will be available in the One Stop Shop in the Ground Floor of the Civic Offices situated in Nigel Gresley Square. Everyone is welcome, especially those who think they may be a carer and have not been able to access support before.
The Carers Service will be on hand to meet with carers to provide information about their rights, inform carers about local support groups that are available and provide carers with guidance on benefits, allowances and tax reductions.
Cllr David Nevett, Cabinet Member for Adults, Wellbeing and Culture, said: “Carers provide vital unpaid care to family members, friends or neighbours when they need it most. We all have a role to play in recognising and supporting carers in our communities and I hope many carers have the chance to get involved in the various activities and events taking place during Carers Week.”
