Doncaster Social Care Academy
The Doncaster Social Care Academy has been set up to recruit people to various paid roles across the adult social care sector.
The academy works by matching the skills and experience of candidates with the jobs available to get people quickly into roles. The roles on offer are varied and include jobs in residential, nursing and supported living care settings as well as roles providing care and support to people in their own homes.
There are currently a variety of permanent, temporary, full-time and part-time positions available ranging from care assistants and support workers to home care workers and shared lives carers. The jobs available do vary and can also include cooks and catering assistants, cleaners and office/administration assistants.
People are matched to roles that suit their skills and interests through a discussion on the phone. Where necessary, full training is given (predominantly online at the moment) and support is provided throughout.

Working in social care
Social care is about providing physical, emotional and social support to help people live their lives. For various reasons and at different stages in their lives, some people need support to develop and maintain their independence, dignity and control.
Social care provides a whole range of services to support adults and older people.
Working in social care, may mean helping people in their own homes, in residential homes or in a number of other places such as day centres or supported housing.
What jobs could you do
There are lots of entry level care roles you could do such as a care worker or personal assistant. There are also support roles such as office and administration, cook or kitchen assistant, or housekeeping/domestic roles and also professional roles such as social workers. Personal care
Care support worker
Providing high quality care and support to meet the needs of adults in a residential setting. Responsible for ensuring their patterns of care and support are based on principles of good quality care which reflect control, cleanliness, comfort, safety, participation, involvement, privacy, dignity and choice.
Senior care officer
To be part of a management team responsible for ensuring a person centre and safe running of the home/unit. Providing shift management of resources, including responsibilities in staffing, finance, equipment and the building.
Home care worker
Being responsible for vulnerable adults across the borough. Assisting them to live in a safe environment whilst promoting choice and independence as specified by an assessed support plan. Providing personal and practical support enabling vulnerable adults to remain in their own home and access the local community.
Administration support, including office management and general clerical tasks
Providing administrative support/management to enable services to provide a good quality service. The duties of the post will vary and will involve a degree of social contact working with clients whilst providing high quality administrative support in setting up and maintaining systems, processing documents, photocopying, sorting, opening and distributing incoming and outgoing mail and recording information as appropriate in line with Data Protection legislation.
Catering roles including cooks and kitchen assistants
Providing high quality seasonal, nutritional, varied and well balanced menus to give service users choice and control and reflect religious or cultural needs. Responsible for ensuring good quality meal provisions which reflect control, cleanliness, safety, participation, involvement, privacy, dignity and choice.
Cleaning, house keeping, domestic, laundry services
Achieving a high standard of cleanliness in a residential setting or persons home. To contribute to the smooth running of the home, the aim of which is to provide a homely atmosphere in which care and concern for the needs of the clients are uppermost.
Professional roles (formal qualification required)
Social worker
To provide a high quality, integrated, effective social work service to adults, carers and the community in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2014 statutory requirements, local policy, procedure and guidance.
Occupational therapists
To provide a high quality, evidence-based Integrated Community Equipment and Adaptations Service to people in their own homes. This will in include carrying a complex caseload and using a robust performance management framework to ensure effective service delivery implementing innovative solutions by working across organisational boundaries to deliver integrated housing solutions to meet the long term needs of the most complex adults.
