A Caldicott Guardian is a senior person responsible for protecting the confidentiality of people's health and care information and making sure it is used properly.

The Guardian plays a key role in ensuring that NHS, councils and partner organisations satisfy the highest practical standards for handling the personal information of patients and service users.

The Caldicott Guardian also ensures that the council upholds the Caldicott Principles and is supported by the UK Caldicott Guardian Council.
