Education & Skills 2030 Consultation

Doncaster Council is engaging in discussion with communities through the Doncaster Talks programme. This is a dialogue with local people and our partners that will help us shape our overall borough strategy for the next ten years. As part of this, Team Doncaster is committed to developing a ten-year vision for Education and Skills (to 2030). This is an invitation for you to shape the future for learning and skills in our borough.

What is this consultation?

We are consulting members of the public, educators, businesses, and other key stakeholders about the future education and skills system in Doncaster. We have already engaged in an initial consultation exercise, which asked where we are now in terms of strengths and areas for development, what a successful learning and skills system look like in 2030, and whether we are pursuing the right goals to get there. The findings of this consultation have been summarised and are being presented back for your consideration. The consultation document outlines:

  • The strengths and challenges faced within the current system;
  • A vision for the future system;
  • Eight key characteristics that we think the future system ought to exhibit;
  • Five priority areas for action.

The framework for consultation is available to download on the right hand side of this page.

The consultation survey is available here.

In addition to this, we would also like to hear your views on:

  • The Doncaster Promise which asks for views on the partnership between education and business. Share your views here.
  • Doncaster Talks - which asks for views on what the Doncaster should focus on as a borough for the next ten years. Share your views here.

What are we consulting on?

There are four key topics we would like to hear your views on:

1. The Future Vision for the Education and Skills System

  Future vision for education and skills

2. Eight Key Characteristics of the Future System

  Characteristics of a successful system

3. Five Priority Themes for Action

  Priority themes for action

4. Areas for development and future challenges.

These are outlined in the Education & Skills 2030 Framework for Consultation document - downloadable from this page.

Why are we consulting?

Doncaster has engaged in a significant Education and Skills transformation journey in over the course of the last three years, and has delivered a series of key achievements since the Independent Commission for Education and Skills set forth their challenge for the borough in the One Doncaster Report (2016). Doncaster is currently working to a number of plans, including Doncaster Growing Together, but this only runs until 2021. There is therefore a need to develop a coherent long-term narrative which sets out how to press forward to improve education, employment and skills over the next decade.
