Making walking, wheeling and cycling safer, easier and more accessible

City of Doncaster Council has been successful in securing funding to improve walking, wheeling and cycling facilities on Bawtry Road between Doncaster Racecourse and Cantley Bridge. We are now seeking comments from residents and businesses on the improvements proposed.

We want to know what you think!

This area on Bawtry Road is used not just by local residents - but by visitors and commuters - and so we are looking for feedback across the entire of the city. We are looking for thoughts on proposals to improve the infrastructure on the particular section of Bawtry Road, between the racecourse roundabout and Cantley Bridge.

This route connects to recently upgraded facilities, including Bennetthorpe and Leger Way.

The proposals will see:

  • Existing footpaths and cycle routes upgraded to meet the latest standards, including widening and resurfacing.
  • Directional and information signage improved to make it easier to find your way, and plan your journey.
  • Improvements to two bus stops.
  • Street lighting updated where needed.
  • New cycling facilities created on the south of Bawtry Road to provide a more direct and accessible route to the Lakeside area and the cycle track at the Dome.
  • Additional cycle parking facilities installed.

The technical drawing for the scheme can be viewed in person at the drop-in events or the Active Travel Hub at Doncaster train station and is also available to download below:

How will these changes benefit local residents and businesses in the area?

These improvements will make it easier and safer for people to walk and wheel more around the local area bringing benefits to health and wellbeing as well as improving access to education, employment and green spaces.

How long will it take to construct?

After the public consultation has concluded, there is an approval and assurance process which needs to be followed. If the scheme is approved to go ahead, work is expected to be able to begin in the new year and to be completed within approximately three months. The scheme will be constructed in phases to minimise disruption as much as possible and maintain access to businesses, homes and services.

Any episodes of adverse weather may cause delays to the construction timeline.

How do I share my views?

The consultation is open until Sunday 14th September.

We are encouraging people who use this particular route regularly to fill in the online survey below and let us know your thoughts on any proposed works.
