Doncaster’s Award Winning Markets have everything you need!
The biggest and best traditional market in the North with some 400 shops, stalls and stands and providing employment for over 1000 people, Doncaster Market has been the heart of the town for hundreds of years. With significant investment in the Market now underway, it stands more than ready, willing and able to meet the expectations of today’s and tomorrow’s discerning shoppers, providing an even livelier and more diverse experience at the centre of Doncaster’s burgeoning retail offer.
Occupying around 25% of Doncaster’s attractively refurbished pedestrian centre, the Market precinct is truly impressive, incorporating four large indoor market halls – each with their own distinctive character – surrounding extensive and bustling outdoor markets. The address for visiting the market is Market Place, Doncaster, DN1 1NF.
The Fish Market
One of the biggest fish markets to be found anywhere, our fifteen fishmongers sell a huge array of seafood – everything from ready-to-eat cockles, prawn, to crab and lobster – so fresh it moves! There are sea bass, monkfish, swordfish, tuna, squid, scallops and skate alongside cod, haddock, sole, bream, salmon, trout and mackerel. Fresh game, rabbits, hare, venison and boar are also sold when in season.
The International Food Hall
While elsewhere so many traditional market food halls have been given over to general goods, here in Doncaster we are proud to boast the UK’s finest dedicated food market selling food and only food – with high quality goods from across Europe and beyond. Italian bakers, a Greek delicatessen, European and Polish delis and spices from the Carribean can all be found here.
Then there are our award-winning butchers, pie makers and sausage specialists, all of whom are complemented with a hot roast deli, traditional breads, cakes, poultry and cheeses from around the world. There are even some comfortable cafes for our customers to enjoy a break while shopping.
The Corn Exchange
The jewel in Doncaster Market’s crown, this fine Victorian listed gem now houses a wider range of quality retailers including household linens, fashion, furnishing and much more.
Upstairs is The Forum where arts and crafts traders produce goods while you wait and there is an attractive balcony tearoom overlooking the building's decorative splendour.
The Wool Market
The largest of our market halls, the historic Wool Market is also our most diverse, providing a home for drapers, haberdashers, cosmetics, fashions, household goods, books and cards, lingerie, curtains, carpets, baby equipment, collectibles, hairdressers, heel bars, home entertainment and much more including many speciality retailers and a trendy café selling freshly made speciality coffees.
Recently benefiting from an extensive and dramatic refurbishment which has seen it re-roofed, opened up, wired up and brightened up, the Wool Market today stands as a clear demonstration of Doncaster Council’s commitment to the Market and the continuation of is ongoing programme of investment and improvements.
The Outdoor Market
With a lively mix of day traders on traditional stalls and lock-up market units, our extensive Outdoor Market never fails to impress.
Stalls sell carpets and fabrics, footwear and perfumes, furniture and fashion, army surplus, luggage, phone accessories, knitting yarns, garden plants and so much more. It also features the freshest flowers, fruit and vegetables imaginable.
Open for business
You will find Doncaster Market fully open on our three market days each week - Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On Wednesdays the outdoor market area hosts an impressive antique and bric-a-brac market. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays some traders, including fishmongers and fruit sellers, are also likely to be open for business.
The Council’s Town Centre Management Team that runs Doncaster Market also operate a variety of occasional and regular speciality street markets in the town centre throughout the year including continental markets, a fortnightly Farmers’ Markets and a popular Sunday car boot sale at Lakeside every week.
The Council’s Area Teams in Mexborough and Rossington operate smaller local markets offering the same levels of customer care and attention to detail that gives markets the edge over much of the High Street.
