Recruitment begins at Doncaster Airport following funding decision

The search is on to find three senior managers to help get the airport ready for opening.

There are three Heads of Service with roles pivotal in setting up an airport and running the ground operations.

The roles — Head of General Aviation and Cargo, Head of Fire Rescue and Emergency Planning and Head of Assets — are being advertised on City of Doncaster Council’s website.

Each of the senior roles, with a salary from £70,614 - £76,256, will be critical to support the airport and would be part of its leadership team. The closing date for applications is the end of September and recruitment will take place immediately after that date where possible, with latest start date in early 2026.

South Yorkshire Airport City Director, Christian Foster, who is leading the programme to reopen DSA, said: “As Mayor Ros Jones said on Tuesday, which was an historic day for the city with the funding agreement of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, City of Doncaster Council is focused on delivering the airport.

“We now need to get the right people in place starting at the top tier in the executive structure. These jobs are vital to manage the comprehensive, technical, regulatory and legal operating requirements of an airport. This is the first tranche of recruitment and these roles will support the further roll out of jobs in the future.

“Each of the roles, as expected at this level, require high level expertise and a significant track record in delivery and experience.”

The Head of General Aviation and Cargo will lead the development of the cargo and freight service ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency, as well as managing the day-to-day operation.

The Head of Fire and Rescue Service will be responsible for delivering the on-site emergency service, ensuring the airport has robust emergency plans and procedures and rapid response if required.

The Head of Assets will oversee the management of the site’s infrastructure, buildings, equipment and land, including the development of the site, ensuring the airport meets sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
