What would YOU do to regenerate YOUR local community?
Shape the future of your local community
We are calling for all children and young people, schools and community groups to help us make Doncaster even better. To repurpose disused areas in their local communities into spaces that young people can use to support their health and wellbeing. We will be judging the entries and commit to turning at least one of the proposals into reality! We’ll also be helping children and young people raise funds to deliver their projects, recruiting volunteers to support and working with the business and community sectors to make and many of these projects a reality as possible.
COVID-19 and the resulting lockdowns have been challenging for everyone, but especially for children and young people. As Doncaster begins to unlock, in line with the national road map, we want to enhance our local areas, to give children and young people spaces to play, to relax, to have fun. We want children and young people to be at the heart of the decision making process, we want them to design the ideas and we want to know what matters most to them. Then we want to help communities to make it happen.
What do young people want in their communities, what would make the most difference to them? This is your chance to shape your space.
Who can get involved
The competition is open to schools and Voluntary Community Sector organisations who work with children and young people, like youth clubs or scouts and guides.
How to take part
We have developed a range of resources that are available to download now. Schools and organisations who are interested need to complete an expression of interest form (see link below). This will enable you to download the teaching materials and access a website to upload entries from your young people.
Judging and closing date
Judging will take place on the first week of July and the top five entries will be asked to present their ideas to a panel. Judging criteria will include the alignment with the needs of the areas and how well the development will support mental and or physical health.
Businesses and Voluntary Community Organisations we want to hear from you
We are contacting local business and voluntary sector organisations to ask if they would consider supporting one of these developments in their area, this could be through volunteering, funding or materials. It’s a chance to shape our communities based on the designs of our children, delivered by communities.
The Doncaster Opportunity Area is committed to turning the winning entry into reality, but we hope by working together across the council, communities, charities and local businesses we can do much more.
