Accessing our Services - Language

Customers who speak different languages may face barriers when accessing our services. Below are some details of the support available for you to access our services via our main channels.

Online

  • Information about council services is available on the website. 
  • Residents can request, report and apply for a large range of services online. 
  • These services are available 24/7, allowing users to access services when it suits them. 

Translation on website 

The council's website has the functionality to translate the content on webpages into a wide range of other languages using the ReachDesk toolbar. 

 

This function can be accessed via: 

  1. Clicking on the Headphone icon in the top right of the webpage 
  1. In the options bar that appears, select the Letter A icon 
  1. This will bring up a list of languages. Scroll through or search for the language of your choice (languages with a speaker icon next to them mean that the website can also read the text on the website out in that language).

Telephone

  • You can call the Council's main call centre on 01302 736000 - opening times Monday to Friday 8:30am-5:00pm (excluding Bank Holidays)  
  • There is an accessibility line available on this numbers for those customers who need extra support when accessing Council services 
  • Emergency Out of Hours/Homeless - 01302 737199 (outside of normal offices hours (including weekends and holidays) 
  • Emergency Homeless Service - 01302 737199 
  • St Leger Homes Emergency Repairs Service - 01302 737199 
  • Adult Social Care Emergency Out of Hours Service - 0300 021 8996 
  • Children's Social Care Emergency Out of Hours Service - 01302 796000 

In Person

  • Residents can visit the One Stop Shop in the Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, DN1 3BU and access services in person. 
  • The One Stop Shop is open between 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday. 
  • 40 computers are available for customers to self-serve with Digital Assistants on hand to help 
  • Staff in the One Stop Shop can support those who’s main language is not English. 
  • Using Google Translate 
  • Access computers - can translate CDC webpages 

Doncaster Interpretation and Translation Unit (DITU)

The council has an interpretation and translation service available for internal teams and external companies and organisations - Doncaster Interpretation and Translation Unit (DITU) 

The service offers the following: 

  • Face to face interpretation 
  • Video interpreting calls  
  • Written translations 
  • Interpreters for a wide range of languages 
  • Advice, guidance and support
