Key traffic and travel information you’ll need to know for the UCI Road World Championships, Friday 27 September, with details of which roads will be closed and when and diversions.
Start time change for Men's U23 race
The race organisers have decided to bring forward the start of the Men's U23 race by 10 minutes. This means the afternoon race will now depart The Dome at 2pm, rather than 2:10pm.
As a result, all the rolling road closures will also be brought forward by 10 minutes. We have updated all the maps and tables that are under our control to reflect this change.

M18 Junction 6 exit slip road closures
The M18 North and Southbound exit slip roads will be closed at Junction 6 in the morning between 8:30am and 9:30am and in the afternoon between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. This means there will be no access into Thorne via Junction 6 during this period.
During these closures traffic will be diverted to Junction 5, however due to the weight and height restrictions through Thorne, all HGV traffic will be diverted to junction 36 of the M62 and into Thorne via the A614.
However, both of these diversion routes will be affected by the race convoy as it travels through. There will a signed diversion in place for both diversions. The entry slip roads will remain open at Junction 6 although access to them will be restricted when the race convoy comes through.
The timings for the race convoy to reach Thorne are approximately 9:10 in the morning and 2:30 in the afternoon and the affected roads will be closed by a rolling road closure 30 minutes ahead of these times.
We understand this may cause some inconvenience for you on the day, but we hope you appreciate the safety of spectators as well as the riders is paramount to our plans.
As both races will see elite riders racing on our local roads, several roads will be closed at certain times. As the races sets off from The Dome, there will be a ‘rolling road closure’ along the route. These are due to start and finish around 30 minutes before and after the riders pass through.
Womens race from 8:40am
Mens race from 2:00pm
As the race will be starting at The Dome, certain roads in the surrounding area will be closed for a fixed period of time, they are as follows:
