Every individual/organisation who employs one or more person to support individuals with their medication, either through prompting, assisting or administering should develop their own Medicine Policy that is relevant to the service they deliver and as a minimum aligns with the NICE Guidelines for Managing Medicines in a Care Home as the information contained within this document is relevant across the different service delivery types.
To assist with the development of a Medicine Policy, Doncaster Council has launched a Medicine Policy Guidance document which can be accessed by visiting the link in the downloads and resources section of this page.
The NICE guidelines for Managing Medicines in a Care Home can be accessed by visiting the NICE website www.nice.org.uk/guidance/SC1 and a checklist for ensuring the relevant elements from the guidelines are included within any medicine policy being developed can be found by visiting www.nice.org.uk
