Calling people to work in Doncaster’s adult social care services

Following its success earlier in the year, Doncaster’s Social Care Academy is once again encouraging people to apply for jobs in the sector in readiness for a busy winter in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Applicants were able to secure jobs in the social care sector when the academy was initially launched and with the winter months approaching, more people are being encouraged to apply to help our most vulnerable residents and their families. Adult social care roles are tremendously rewarding and no one day is the same. The recruitment process is straightforward and training will be given with PPE in place.  

Councillor Rachael Blake, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said:

“People don’t need a background in care, they just need a passion to help others.  

“We had a great response when the academy was launched at the start of the pandemic and we’d love to hear from more budding social care heroes who would like to be part of our fantastic teams across the borough who are making such a huge difference to the lives of our vulnerable residents.

“This is a challenging time for everyone - your support will have an impact in helping our most vulnerable people and their families. Furthermore, the recruitment drive is more than just filling a short term gap during this emergency, working in the care sector is a long term career offering people a hugely rewarding job for the future.”

Cllr Blake added:

“The organisations working to deliver care for people in the borough are doing a sterling job, both in care homes and in our communities. However, we anticipate a tough few months ahead, with more Doncaster people becoming unwell and the likelihood that some staff themselves will need to be off work for a period due to sickness.

“For local people not working at the moment, employment in one of our varied roles could be a great opportunity.”

The academy quickly matches the skills and experience of candidates with the jobs available and there will be a variety of permanent and temporary full time and part-time roles that need filling in the coming weeks. The range of care worker roles include Home Care Worker, Support Worker, Supported Living Worker, Care Assistant working in a Care Home. People will be matched to roles that suit their skills and interests through a discussion on the phone. The minimum age for a social care role is 18. Training will be given, predominantly online, with the first training session scheduled for 17th November. Support will then be provided throughout.
