Cycling in Doncaster
Doncaster Cycling Action Programme (DCAP)

The Doncaster Cycling Action Programme (DCAP) details the core objectives to promote cycling within the Borough. The main thrust of which DCAP is to provide a high quality cycle route network for commuter and leisure use, cycle parking in town centres, transport interchanges and local facilities together with road safety education training and publicity.
DCAP also includes an implementation plan, which identifies schemes to be implemented in the short, medium and long term. All the proposed routes within DCAP are also identified on the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) proposals map to ensure that the alignments are protected from future development.
The successful implementation of these schemes to date, has helped reverse the decline in cycling, that has taken place since the late 1970's. Recent growth has been associated with the completion of the Trans Pennine Trail and the Doncaster Greenway (north and south) routes. In addition personal injury road accidents involving cyclists have reduced year on year since 1999.
The promotion of DCAP is also linked to other initiatives, which are creating a safer environment for cyclists, such as the Council's 20mph zones programme and Safer Routes to School Schemes, cyclist training and the provision of secure cycle storage. recent infrastructure projects include improvements to Roman Ridge, the Balby Woodfield Greenway and additional cycle parking in the town centre and at the station. These improvements have resulted in a year on year increase in cycle flows as shown from annual cordon count data
