Sarah receives her special award from Mayor Martin Winter
Mayor Martin Winter has presented Sarah Stevenson with a Special Discover the Spirit Award in recognition of her Bronze medal achievement in Taekwondo at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, during a special Mayoral reception at Mansion House.
On receiving her award, Sarah said: “I have been overwhelmed by all the kind words from everyone in the borough. I am especially thankful for the support given to me over the years from my mum and dad, family and coach.
“I’m really proud of where I’m from and I think Doncaster is a great town which keeps getting better.”
Mayor Martin Winter said: “I presented Sarah with a Discover the Spirit Award in recognition of her outstanding performance. Sarah’s hard work and focused determination at the Games is a shining example of the Doncaster Spirit.
“Despite the obstacles that were put in Sarah’s way, she came through to take Bronze and make us all so proud. Her success will inspire everyone, from those thinking of taking part in sport, to future Doncaster Olympians, as we look forward to London 2012."
