Resident of the Year Finalists
Brian Cox
For the last 30 years Brian has volunteered his time to support people in need through his social enterprise project the Tricon Foundation and at 81, an age when most people would be taking things easy, Brian is relentless in his efforts to service the community.
Working to reduce social isolation and re-engage people with their community, Brian’s rehabilitation training has helped several residents to regain confidence and re-enter employment while learning new skills and making new friends.
On top of this services offered by the Foundation such as gardening, cleaning, decorating and house repairs also help vulnerable elderly residents to enjoy a better quality of life.
Mark Flynn
As Chairperson of the Six Streets Focus Group, Mark has tirelessly campaigned to improve the living conditions for residents living in and around the Six Streets area of Hyde Park.
Despite serious illness that sees him bedridden and regularly hospitalised, he has put the needs of the area before his own, working hard to keep informed and move things forward for the better of the community.
The regeneration of this area has been emotional for many residents. Refusing to act on gossip Mark has built up channels of communication with relevant parties to acquire accurate information and used this to reason with, reassure and inform others – often defusing heated situations with his calming influence.
Doreen Gravil
Doreen has been described as one very special lady who always puts others before herself.
Running a neighbourhood watch team, she has actively contributed to a safer and happier community and is always on hand help people with any problems they might have.
She also helps a group of adults with learning disabilities with weekly line dancing, organises local reading groups, an annual Christmas dinner for the elderly and volunteers as a guide at the Mansion House.
