Winner - Alan Moseley

Alan Moseley

Alan Moseley receives his award from Mayor Martin Winter

Alan works tirelessly in the community but especially with young people. Amongst his many achievements he has set up a community cinema club, is local choirmaster, Chair of Adwick Park Sports Association and, for the last fifteen years, Chair of the Board of Governors at Adwick Park Junior School.

He has been instrumental in seeking the views of young people to provide them with what they want as opposed to what adults think that they need. He has an excellent rapport with young people and proves most popular when attending school trips and when providing discos for school events.

He raises funds for Christian Aid and runs a luncheon club and breakfast club that provided food to Adwick and Toll Bar residents during the flooding earlier this year.

Finalists

Sallie Appleyard
Doncaster’s longest serving foster carer, Sallie has looked after young people of all age groups for over 35 years but for the last 15 years she has mainly cared for pre-adoption babies and toddlers.

Sallie’s contribution to fostering has been huge. Having adopted herself, she empathises with all those involved in an adoption. Her personal experience, combined with her warm personality, means that she can help all concerned in the adoption remain calm and relaxed, resulting in a smooth transition for the child.

Sadly Sallie’s husband Edward recently passed away and it is testament to Sallie’s dedication to fostering and the children she looks after that aged 75 she has decided to continue fostering.

Cath Lawson
As Headteacher of Hexthorpe Primary School, Cath Lawson actively champions new ideas that she believes will benefit the school and community.

Under Mrs Lawson’s leadership the school achieved ‘Outstanding’ in a recent Ofsted report and won recognition during Doncaster In Bloom for the school’s allotment. Ofsted inspectors commented on the “Visionary and clearly focused leadership that underpins the pupil’s outstanding academic achievement and personal development”

Parents have described the school as a “very big family” and the school has strong links with the community seeing residents invited into school for events such as harvest tea, concerts and carol services as well as pupils going distributing produce from their allotment and singing carols at the local church, community centre and care homes.

Kevin Lincoln
Chair of Governors at Hatfield Visual Arts College for seven years, Kevin has provided strong strategic leadership and inspiration to the governing body in the face of a major fire, two Ofsted inspections and an extensive rebuild.

He was instrumental in the establishment of the Secondary Chairs Network Group, recognised by Ofsted as an innovation and the first of its kind in the country. The group has inspired the forming of a similar group representing Primary Schools.

Kevin is also a Director with Doncaster Athletic Club providing sporting opportunities for young people.
