Doncaster Discover the Spirit Awards

Doncaster New Deal for Communities (NDC) is proud to be sponsoring this year’s Discover the Spirit Awards, celebrating the contributions local people have made to our communities. 

Big things are happening in parts of Doncaster – and it’s all led by the community.  Doncaster NDC is an ambitious programme which is working to change the face of Balby Woodfield, Balby Bridge, Hexthorpe, Hyde Park and Nether Hall over a ten-year period.

Doncaster NDC has helped improve people’s lives by offering local people in these areas new opportunities and is making sustainable improvements to the environment, as well as transforming relationships between residents and service providers to ensure they are given a better standard of service in their communities. 

Since 2001 local people have worked together in partnership with Doncaster NDC to help hundreds of young people improve their lives; they have supported over 60 local businesses to improve their premises; funded six new play facilities in the NDC area, helped over 1,100 NDC residents gain access to training and over 1000 people find a job through the NDC project Ways2Work; helped the burglary crime rate drop by over 18% in the NDC area by funding additional policing and free Smartwater to all NDC residents; provided street lighting to help people feel safer in their streets, and funded additional GCSE and SAT’s revision classes to help raise educational attainment.

These are just some of the exciting things that have happened in the five NDC areas.  NDC and its residents will continue to change the lives of many today and for future generations.
