Adult Family & Community Learning offer a variety of free courses to help you improve both your English and Mathematics skills.

Our qualifications support the development of practical skills in English and Maths and are designed to help you gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. There is a strong focus on explanation and problem-solving. You can develop your skills from Entry Level up to Level 2. 

They can help you to:

  • update your skills for work
  • improve your qualifications for college or further learning
  • help your children with their homework
  • or simply help you to improve your English and maths skills

Non accredited programmes

As in introduction to our programmes, we offer a short course to prepare you for progression onto our accredited programmes. These will help you increase your confidence to achieve national qualification, if you want to progress. Alternatively you might want to continue learning and improving your skills without getting a qualification, it’s up to you.

Accredited programmes currently on offer are:

Maths

Entry,1,2 3, Level 1 and Level 2

A recognised qualification to show skills in using maths to problem solve

Topics include - basic calculating strategies, fractions, decimals and percentages, using graphs, working with measures and shapes.

English

Entry 1,2, 3, Level 1 and Level 2

A recognised qualification to show skills in using reading, writing, speaking & listening.

 

Topics include - spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary, as well as developing your reading and writing skills. 

 ESOL

Entry 2, 3, Level 1

 

A recognised qualification to show skills in using reading, writing, speaking & listening.

 Topics include - spelling, punctuation, grammar, phonics and vocabulary, as well as developing your reading and writing skills. 

Individual programme of study

Before you start learning we will make sure we know your starting point and get you on the right course. Whatever level you start at our courses are designed to allow you to progress at your own pace. So if you simply need to brush up your skills or need more intensive support, before taking a qualification, we can accommodate this on a timescale that is appropriate to you.

Cost

The government recognises the National importance of Skills for Life and so therefore there is no cost to you the learner.

Can I access these courses?

You need to be able to meet certain criteria to join one of our courses, these are that you must:

  • be aged 19+
  • be a Doncaster resident
  • have leave to remain in the UK
  • have lived in the UK for 6 months or more
