Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery

Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery was opened in 1964 to display important collections of natural history, archaeology, local history, fine and decorative art. There is also a large and varied temporary exhibition programme throughout the year, as well as special activities for all ages.

Opening hours:

  • Wednesday to Friday- 10am to 4:30pm
  • Saturday and Sunday- 10:30am to 4.15pm
  • Monday and Tuesday- closed

Last admission 15 minutes before closing.

Admission is free at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery.

Car parking

Free parking is available to visitors. Please be sure to register your car at the museum reception. For further information, see the car parks leaflet attached to this page.

Bus and train

Easily reached from the town centre, a 10 minute walk from the Interchange, straight up Hallgate, right at the traffic lights, and then left at the mini roundabout down Chequer Road. The number 58 bus from the Interchange stops on route.

Donations to the museum

Contact the museum on 01302 734293 and they will put you in touch with the appropriate member of staff to arrange an appointment. Please do not bring objects into the museum without an appointment.

Donors of objects at Doncaster Museum Service

Doncaster Museum Service is undergoing a review of its collections, which will involve the removal from its collections (de-accessioning) of some items that are no longer required. We would therefore like to contact the original donors of the objects concerned before 30th June 2018. A list of these donors is attached in the download below. Volunteering with Doncaster Heritage Services

Volunteering with Doncaster Heritage Services is a way to use your skills, discover new ones, share your passion for the past and have fun. Volunteers are vital to support the service and opportunities are varied.  

Over 50 volunteers have already given their time for a number of reasons, including students who are looking to build their own skills, job seekers who want to gain relevant experience and those who are looking for a different way to spend their retirement.
