Animal Health

Service Description

The Animal Health Team are responsible for preventing the spread of disease and unnecessary suffering of farm animals, by advising on health matters and by monitoring and enforcing legislation. Officers check animal movement farm records, carry out inspections of vehicles moving animals, deal with animals which have died in suspicious circumstances and have responsibility during outbreaks of foot and mouth, rabies, anthrax and other serious animal diseases. The team also enforces feedingstuffs legislation and standards of hygiene for primary producers including livestock holdings, arable farms and horticulture of foodstuffs.
