General Advice

  1. A timeclock or digital programmer automatically turns the heating and hot water on and off at times you set.
  2. You have three switches that you can use to control on/off times:
    - auto, which automatically turns the heating and hot water on and off at times that you set
    - ON, which you can use to manually override the automatically set starting time
    - OFF, which you can use to manually override the automatically set finishing time.
  3. Set the heating to go off during the night and when the home is empty during the day.
  4. During freezing spells, keep some background heat on all the time.
  5. A room thermostat controls the heating to keep the room at the temperature you have set.
  6. Storage heaters store heat from electricity supplied at cheaper off-peak (night) times and release it the following day.
