11. Ensure local people get value for money from Council Services. Continue the war on unnecessary waste and bureaucracy. I will personally lobby the Government to reduce the number of Councillors from 63 to 21, thereby saving over £700,000.

The council has to save £71m by 2015. I have always been honest on how I feel about these cuts and thought there were many areas of the council where we could make savings without damaging crucial front line services, and I still believe that to be the case. In 2010/11 we saved £30m and we have plans in place to streamline our internal services and offer better value for money for our residents.

I have had several productive meetings with ministers on reducing the number of local councillors, and the resulting cost to council tax payers, and will continue to actively pursue this.
