12. Continue to encourage community harmony and cohesion. All citizens should be treated equally, according to their needs, and I will root out political correctness, so that people are seen as individuals, not by reference to labels and artificial groupings.
The Mayor has pledged support for local community projects
I am committed to supporting all citizens being treated equally, according to their respective needs. To do this I aim to encourage all sections of the community, including any ‘newcomers’ to the town, to learn actively the English language as a route to integration instead of relying on translations. As part of my commitment to equalities, I will not stand for, or tolerate any form of discrimination, whether that be direct, indirect or institutional. I will proactively work to release the potential of all individuals and communities, nobody should have to conform to ‘labels’ or stereotypes in society, and I will do everything to prevent this from happening now and in the future. We will proactively engage with all members of the community and together create cohesive communities, which share a common understanding of our values.
