The Children’s Improvement Plan has made good progress over the last year, and the Children and Young People’s Service has laid strong foundations for sustained progress.
The latest Ofsted inspection found the service to be ‘adequate’, acknowledging the Council now meets its statutory requirements for the management of safeguarding and services for children in care. This reflects significant progress over the last year, after a considerable period of poor performance and inadequate management which led to Government intervention in 2009.
‘Adequate’ is a positive development but not good enough. I am determined we continue to improve these safeguarding services so that they become amongst the best in the country.
