Council approves my budget proposals

As a directly-elected executive Mayor, I presented my budget proposals to Full Council for it to consider on Thursday February 20 2014. The Council supported my proposals so we can now plan ahead financially for the next three years on a sounder financial footing with a clear strategy for the future. These proposals are contained in a report to Full Council.

I am determined that this Council takes a longer term view of the financial challenges we face rather than tackle immediate solutions yearly.

With this budget, we have saved the £38million we need during 2014/15 and I have outlined where I think we can bridge the budget gap with proposals for 2015/16 and 2016/17. We have to save a total of £109million. The budget would meet the vast majority of this although we have £16.1million still to find. I will put further saving proposals to Full Council this autumn.

You can read more about what I have to say on the budget in my statement below.
