The Mayor

Doncaster - discover the spirit.

Mayor Martin Winter is the first elected Mayor of Doncaster and is one of only eleven in the country.

The Mayor is the Council’s political leader. Initially elected on a three year term of office and subsequently re-elected for a further four year term, he has personal responsibility and executive powers with authority to delegate work through the appointment of a Cabinet.

The Mayor proposes an annual budget and policy framework which Full Council debate and approve. The Mayor is responsible for the effective implementation of Council policy and delivering services.

Statutory requirements mean certain decisions are made by Committees, not the Mayor, these include the Planning Committee and Licensing Committee.

The Mayor represents Doncaster Council and the Borough on a local, national and international platform.
