Declaration of Gifts and Hospitality

Members must register gifts and hospitality worth £25.00 or over which are received in connection with their official duties as a Member and the source of the gift or hospitality. The gift or hospitality and its source must be registered in the Register of Interests within 28 days of receiving it.

Declaration of gifts/hospitality is via the Monitoring Officer for Borough Councillors and the respective Town Clerk for Parish Councillors.

You do not need to register gifts and hospitality which are not related to your role as a member, such as Christmas gifts from your friends and family, or gifts which you do not accept.  However, you should always register a gift or hospitality if it could be perceived as something given to you because of your position or if your authority requires you to.

There is no need to register gifts and hospitality offered but declined. However, it may be good practice to let your Monitoring Officer or Town Clerk know about such offers as other Members may also be offered gifts.

If a Member receives a series of gifts, each worth less than the amount set out in the Code of Conduct, which are received in connection with their role as a Member and are collectively with more than £25.00, it would be good practice to inform the Monitoring Officer or relevant Clerk.

Members should read the guidance notes and use the form to declare any gifts or hospitality. Please use the links on the left and below for guidance from The Standards Board for England

Parish Councillors

Parish Councillors should contact their Parish Clerk to obtain a copy of the form relevant to them. This form will be in a similar format to the Borough Councils form.
