Graduate Teacher Programme

The graduate teacher programme (GTP) suits both mature people who want to continue earning while they train to be a teacher, graduates already working in a support role in school as well as final year degree applicants. The training is tailored to the trainee’s individual needs. Entry to the GTP is highly competitive and places (especially in Primary) are allocated to the best graduates within distinct categories.

Minimum qualifications required for a place on the GTP

To be eligible, applicants must have the following before APPLYING to the programme:

- GCSE, CSE or equivalent at grade C or above in Mathematics AND English;
- GCSE, CSE or equivalent, at grade C or above in Science*, if you wish to teach Primary.

*NOTE:- Since 1st October 2006, all applicants wishing to teach the Primary age range must also have attained the standard required for GCSE grade C in Science.

 To be eligible, applicants must have the following before BEING ACCEPTED on to the programme:

- A full degree (ideally 2:2 or above) where at least half the degree is in a relevant national curriculum subject. Applicants in the final year of their degree would need to provide evidence from the degree provider that the necessary grade has been obtained prior to the start of the programme in September.
