The graduate teacher programme (GTP) suits both mature people who want to continue earning while they train to be a teacher, graduates already working in a support role in school as well as final year degree applicants. The training is tailored to the trainee’s individual needs. Entry to the GTP is highly competitive and places (especially in Primary) are allocated to the best graduates within distinct categories.

For applicants to be eligible for the programme, they must have the following by the start of the programme:
A UK bachelor's degree (or equivalent) - ideally 2:2 or above, where at least half the degree is in a relevant national curriculum subject
GCSE, CSE or equivalent at grade C or above in Mathematics AND English
GCSE, CSE or equivalent, at grade C or above in Science, if wishing to teach Primary
