Guidance on How to Complete a Nomination Form

Making 'GEM Awards' Work

The 'GEM Awards' Scheme can only work with your participation.

When you see an employee or a small team of employees who do something outstanding in a positive way, over and above the usual expectations and responsibilities of their roles, then resist the urge to ignore it, fill out a nomination form.

Anyone can make a nomination, yes, even you.

We are looking to recognise and encourage excellence in the behaviour of employees in support of colleagues and service users as well as the ongoing dedication to providing consistently high levels of customer service.

How To Make a Nomination

To nominate an individual or team's efforts and contributions, simply download and print the attached nomination form and return it to the above address or you can post the form in the post box provided in any Council building reception areas. Please try to supply evidence to support your nomination i.e. letters of commendation, memos, or any other relevant information. The directorate Scheme Co-ordinator will then return a copy of the form to you. There are no restrictions to the number of nominations that can be made in any one month.

What Happens Next?

Once you have made your nomination it will then be assessed against criteria to ensure fairness. If the nomination is successful then one of the following awards will be made:

Directorate Employee/Team of the Month - made to the employee/team that best meets one or more of the specified criteria, in any one month.

Complementary Award - made at the discretion of the directorate for those who
demonstrate excellence but are not judged as the overall successful employee/team, in any one month.

Directorate Employee/Team of the Year - made for demonstrating one or more of the specified criteria, selected from all successful Directorate Employee/Team of the Month Awards.

Doncaster Council Employee/Team of the Year - the names of all Directorate Employee/Team of the Year award recipients over the last 12 months will go forward to a Corporate Judging panel, made up of The Managing Director, The Mayor and a recognised Regional Trade Union Official, with advice from the Head of Human Resources & Organisational Development. This group will decide who will receive the overall Doncaster Council Employee/Team of the Year Award. It is at this point that the supporting evidence becomes crucial, so that each nomination can be given the consideration it justly deserves.

Encouragement Award - made to all employees who have been nominated, but are not successful.

Celebrations

A local presentation will then be made at a team meeting, or another appropriate forum, as soon as possible.

An official ceremony will be held at The Mansion House once a year to recognise the achievements of employees.
