Unauthorised school absence - Challenge a fixed penalty notice

What is this for?

You have been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice because your child has either been absent from school and this absence was unauthorised OR your child was observed to be in a public place while excluded from school. If you feel that this Penalty Notice has been issued to you in error, please complete this form.

What is it going to cost?

It doesn’t cost anything to challenge the Penalty Notice but if your challenge is unsuccessful you will need to pay the Penalty Notice within the payment deadline shown.

What we need from you

Your challenge should be made within 14 days from the date of issue of the penalty notice. You will need to supply your penalty notice reference number and the grounds under which you are making the challenge with any supporting evidence.

What you should expect from us

We will respond within 7 working days advising you of the outcome.
