The Role of the Doncaster Design Centre

The Town Team has some ideas about what the Centre should be. They have held workshops and discussions and taken inspiration from other Centres. A Director will be appointed to get the Centre established. The project will evolve as Doncaster people get involved.

This is what it can be:-

  • A Place to Promote Good Design - this will be the core activity through displays, exhibitions, meetings and events.
  • A Place of Education - with strong links to schools, colleges and universities - working with students throughout the education system to engage them in urbanism and design, in particular, forging links with 'Doncaster Education City' and local universities to develop and contribute to academic courses.
  • A Meeting Place - for the Design Panel and Town Team and other organisations with interests in architecture, design, education, the arts, local history and regeneration. As a prestigious town centre venue for meetings, conferences and events.
  • A Place of Consultation - where major planning applications and development proposals can be displayed for public information.
  • A Place of Information - where there is access to publications, a web-site and people who can advise on architecture and design.
  • A Place to get Involved - where people can get involved in projects to improve the quality of places where they live and work - through training and participation improve their understanding of the urban design and architecture.
