Aims and Objectives of the Design Centre

The aims and objectives of the Centre were set out by the Doncaster Renaissance Town Team in 2004

Aims

  • Establish a focus for raising the quality of architecture, urban design and public art in Doncaster.
  • Raise aspirations for quality improvements in the urban environment.
  • Raise awareness of the value of good design within Doncaster's communities to aid regeneration.
  • Provide learning opportunities in architecture and urban design for the whole community.

Objectives

  • Help raise the image of Doncaster and promote civic pride.
  • Work with communities to raise awareness of and develop skills in architecture and urban design.
  • Engage young people in design issues.
  • Be an independent forum for debate on town planning, architecture and urban design and be a 'Critical Friend' to decision-makers in urban development.
  • Promote an understanding of Sustainable Development in construction and town planning by working with the community and relevant partners.
  • Work in partnership and where appropriate, take a lead with local regeneration agencies and other bodies engaged in urban renaissance.
  • Work in partnership with the education sector to develop a design and built environment studies content to curriculums.
  • Promote dialogue and collaboration between those involved in design of the built environment and offer training and professional development opportunities.
