| | 26/02/10 - Diva coming to Doncaster’s Hothouse Festival | Doncaster will be welcoming a former 80s chart-topping singer, accompanied by Sting’s guitarist as part of the Hothouse Festival in March.
It is hard to define an artist whose astonishing voice straddles rock, blues, jazz and soul and is often compared with Janis Joplin, Nina Simone and Tom Waits. But there can be little doubt that an evening with the sensual singer-songwriter Sarah Jane Morris will leave you breathless. Sarah, formerly of the Communards, will be accompanied by guitar maestro Dominic Miller. He is best known for his collaborations with Sting.
This intimate acoustic set promises to be a night to remember in this rare UK performance as part of the Doncaster HotHouse Festival from 2 - 30 March. ‘Where it Hurts’ features a collection of original and haunting songs co-written with Dominic Miller and Martyn Barker and is at the Civic Theatre on Wednesday 17 March.
Music also plays a hugely significant part in the seductive stage version of The Graduate based on the Oscar-winning film starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The Graduate follows the story of college graduate Ben who becomes embroiled in a passionate affair with an older woman and features the legendary music of Simon and Garfunkel. It’s a gripping and vivid depiction of passion, desire and loneliness featuring a sparse but sophisticated set and sublime performances. The Graduate is on at the Civic Theatre on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 March.
Councillor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Regulatory/Customer Services and Housing, said: "I am looking forward to this year’s Hothouse programme, this is an excellent programme of events which really does have something for everyone.
"I would encourage people to book shows early to avoid disappointment."
