| | 25/03/09 - New Director of Children's Services | The drive to improve Children's Services at Doncaster received a new impetus this week with the appointment of Leicestershire County Council's Gareth Williams as the new Director of the service.
Paul Hart, Managing Director of Doncaster Council, said: "The appointment has been made jointly by Doncaster and Leicestershire County Council on a secondment basis. The Government has been keen to encourage joint involvement of this kind to improve services for children and young people.
"Gareth is an experienced Director of Children's Services with an excellent track record at Leicestershire. We look forward to working closely with him."
Mr. Hart paid tribute to the services of Dr. Paul Gray for the improvements put in place during the last year as Director. Dr. Gray joined Doncaster on a short term basis a year ago until a new Director of Children's Services could be appointed. "Paul has worked tremendously hard to stabilise a service that had major problems when he arrived a year ago and has made significant improvements to the service," said Mr. Hart.
Dr Paul Gray said: "Working at Doncaster Council has been hugely challenging and rewarding. I feel the time is right to move on and allow Gareth Williams to make further rapid improvements."
Gareth Williams said: "I am sure working at Doncaster Council will be tremendously challenging. But I am impressed by the desire of everyone to make rapid improvements and work very hard to that end for the people of Doncaster. I will be working closely with Tony Elson who is the new Chair of the Improvement Board and will retain my duty as Director at Leicestershire during my time at Doncaster.
