| | 11/02/08 - Building a better future for all of Doncaster | Three public meetings still remain as the Council seeks residents' views on the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which is set to transform the face of education in the Borough.
BSF is the biggest single investment in improving education for over 50 years and will see the already booming Borough receive an estimated £200m of government money to be invested in its schools.
The aim is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period and this huge financial boost will ensure the schools of Doncaster’s future are modern, vibrant learning environments, offering a diverse curriculum complemented by state of the art facilities. BSF will also open up a wealth of opportunities for the whole Borough.
Mayor Winter’s White Paper ‘Achieving Success - Building Schools for the Future’ contains full details of the options for every secondary school in Doncaster and the Council are now seeking residents’ views on these.
Mayor Martin Winter said, "Building Schools for the Future is not simply about renewing school buildings - it goes far beyond the bricks and mortar. It will create world-class 21st century schools that will inspire learning for decades to come and provide exceptional assets for the whole community."
He added, "I urge all residents to take part in the consultation about this most exciting opportunity to transform education in Doncaster that we will have in our lifetime. I want everyone to have their say so we can be sure that our future schools meet the needs of all our residents and are schools that every single member of the community are proud to call their own."
‘Achieving Success - Building Schools for the Future’ can be accessed online at www.doncaster.gov.uk/bsf and will also be available in all libraries, schools, doctor’s surgeries and Council office receptions.
The remaining public meetings are as below (all 6-7.30pm):
Monday 18 February, The Hayfield School
Tuesday 19 February, Balby Carr Community Sports College
Wednesday 20 February, Northcliffe School
Feedback should be sent to: BSF Consultation, The Blue Building, 38-40 High Street, Doncaster DN1 1DE. Comments will also be welcome online at: www.doncaster.gov.uk/bsf via email at: bsf.team@doncaster.gov.uk or please call 01302 736033.
All feedback will be considered before a decision is taken on how to proceed and the response will be widely publicised. |
