About Emergency Planning

The Emergency Planning Team supports the emergency response in a number of ways, including:

  • Providing emergency transport to move members of the public from the scene of an emergency to a safe location;
  • Arranging emergency shelter should members of the public be evacuated from their homes;
  • Providing emergency information to the public;
  • Management of Humanitarian Assistance Centres;
  • Co-ordinating services that the Council provides;
  • Providing care and comfort for those affected; 
  • Lead on restoring communities and environment in returning to normality.

The Emergency Planning Team also works closely with:

  • Partner Agencies including, Emergency Services, Voluntary Organisations and Faith Groups;
  • Sporting venues to ensure that they are prepared for emergencies;
  • Parish Councils and other community groups, to help communities prepare for emergencies;
  • Schools to provide emergency planning guidance.

Definition of an Emergency

  • Any event or situation which threatens serious damage to human welfare in a place in the UK.

  • An event or situation which threatens serious damage to the environment of a place in the UK

  • Or War or terrorism which threatens serious damage to the security of the UK

What could affect us?

Emergencies that could affect Doncaster include: flooding, severe weather, major transport disruption, outbreaks of disease including flu pandemics and security incidents.

As part of the risk assessment process South Yorkshire maintains a Community Risk Register which identifies possible hazards which could impact on the communities of South Yorkshire.
