Trading Standards
The Criminal Investigations and Complaints Team deal with:
- Investigation of fraudulent trading practices.
- Prosecution, where appropriate, of traders and individuals who are engaged in criminal activities contributing to the well being of the community by ensuring a fair trading environment.
- Advising upon all consumer complaints which relate to goods and services (Consumer Advice).
The Weights and Measures and Product Safety Team deal with:
- Inspection of business premises and shops to make sure they are meeting legal standards.
- Investigation of all matters in relation to the safety of consumers products consumer safety sampling to check goods.
- Giving of advice on a range of technical and legal matters to all businesses checking all weighing and measuring instruments in trade use.
- Investigation of licensing complaints.
- Checking of all taxis meters to make sure they are measuring and charging correctly.
