The Economy and Enterprise team sits within the overall Policy, Partnerships and Governance Directorate. The team is responsible for delivering a range of priorities within the Economy and Enterprise theme of the Local Area Agreement.
The team works closely with colleagues across the council and with pattern organisations to develop policy and strategy that is best fit for Doncaster and that fits with national, regional and sub-regional policy. The team has a number of key workstreams which include the:
Development of a new Economic Strategy for the Borough. This reflects the need for a refreshed set of priorities to continue to drive Doncaster to achieve our 2025 vision. Against the context of Doncaster's transformational agenda, the growing economic vitality of Doncaster, the development of a fourth LAA block and Doncaster's role within the Sheffield City Region, it is necessary for the Borough to understand its current economic position and to design interventions which will enable us to achieve our 2025 vision.
Development and Implementation of the South Yorkshire City Pathfinder - This is a coordinated approach to Skills, Worklessness and Enterprise and is one of the key challenges the borough faces. Doncaster, as part of a South Yorkshire wide consortium, is committed to ensuring that the demand and supply sides of the labour market are brought together to make sure that skills, employability and training programmes meet employer need.
The Economy & Enterprise team also has a responsibility for the facilitation and management of the Enterprising Doncaster Board. This is the strategic partnership for the Borough responsible for coordinating our approach to Skills, Employment and Enterprise. In addition the Board has a strong role to play in the development of economic policy. The Board is Private Sector Led with key employers and businesses represented alongside key public sector partner agencies including Jobcentre Plus, the Learning and Skills Council, Yorkshire Forward and the Council.
